Hello
I am planning to study at Seneca college in Toronto starting from september 2019 and my boyfriend wants to get a work permit. We have lived together for almost a year and then decided to live apart in order to save some money, so during the last year and a half, we lived in our parents' house. We don't share any residential property, we don't rent an apartment together and we don't have a shared bank account. Is it enough to show only a common law certificate in order to get a work permit?

Hi, According to the information provided CIC would not consider you as a common law partners as they have this following requirement-
has been living with you for at least 12 consecutive months, meaning:
you’ve been living together continuously for one year, without any long periods apart
if either of you left your home it was for:
family obligations
work or business travel
any time spent away from each other must have been:
short
temporary
Also, there is no mention of a common law certificate in the list of documents required. It is a must that you should be living together for 12 months. Otherwise you are just boyfriend and girlfriend/boyfriend. Once you live for 12 months you need to submit the following proof.
Items that can be used as proof of a common-law relationship include:
shared ownership of residential property
joint leases or rental agreements
bills for shared utility accounts, such as:
gas
electricity
telephone
joint utility accounts
important documents for both of you showing the same address, such as:
