Common Law Status confusion

My partner (Canadian citizen) and I (British Citizen) have lived together for over 12 months in Canada. Therefore, I believe we can claim common law status for family class sponsorship.

However, in a couple of days I will return to the UK, because my temporary residents visa has expired (I have already extended twice). Therefore, we were planning to do the family class application "from outside".

My question is, once I leave Canada, will we no longer considered common-law partners?

Having once qualified, you will not lose that status unless you overtly declare the relationship at an end.
