My GF is here. She has a valid tourist visa that expires September 2020 at the same time when her passport expires.
Her passport was stamped as of yesterday, July 18, 2019, she can stay here for at least 6 months.
We would thus be living common law as of her arrival as required by the rules of 12 months till 2020 one full year. This would give her chance to adjust. I thank this forum and the leaders and experienced folks to have learnt so much.
Just for record, she has been here in 2016 for 4 weeks and 2018-2019 for 3 months. We traveled here and have hotel bills etc. We stayed together at her home town in Malaysia after and before our trips. We have traveled together Far East in 2017 2018 2019. I have all flight tickets and itineraries, hotel bills and so forth. Family pictures here and with my granddaughter here. Credit card Bills for making some renovations in her home paid by me.
This time she has a return ticket to go back in 6 weeks, to be safe. This, i will call the airline to see what can be done for return portion.
Usually her passport was not stamped at the border.
30 days or 40 days before her tourist visa 6 months expires as of July 18, 2019, I will ask for a renewal with a reason that she intends to live here to complete her 12 months required for common law relationship. I have learnt this here.
Questions:
1) Do I get her passport renewed well before I ask for her visa extension? As that will take as I understand 8 weeks or so, as her current passport expires in Sep 2020 with the tourist visa as well.
2) Also this gives us time as I will then send out the PR application after we have 12 months together for common law purposes. We do not plan to leave Canada till all is said and done.
2) I already have my home phone bill to show her name with mine. Power and Gas Company have said no to joint accounts. I do not live in rental so not joint lease.
3) I got her cell phone sim card with my name but also says her name as owner of the sim card. No other way was possible.
4) I will go to my bank to make her joint in my account, hopefully they agree. Has anyone had this done? Also, open her own bank account. I hope to have her friends send out post cards etc at my address.
5) We Plan to get her library card and city pool membership. I will call my credit card company if they can give her a card without social insurance under my credit. Hopefully they will issue. Any one ideas?
I will travel here in Ontario and Quebec and take pictures, and with family and very close friends on an ongoing basis. Go to community picnic etc and take pictures.
After the 12 months have passed, I will add her as a beneficiary at my work life insurance as well as health care benefits. As well file tax returns with common law spouse after the 12 months living together. As then she will be a common law spouse.
How does this look? Can I do more than this? Please share your valuable knowledge! As with PR application as well with common law spouse application
I hope to do this myself and have done lots to date but then check and do my best I know. Ask you all for guidance saving me a huge legal bill for the completion for the PR application and change in condition items etc.
Pls read and assist
