Hi,

I'm a Spanish citizen and I'm preparing all the documents for getting the permanent residence through Common law sponsorship with my Canadian boyfriend.
I have some questions and I would be very grateful if someone could help me:

- I had a Working Holiday Visa for one year and I worked in Montreal during this time. Is this considered any sort of advantage?

- We have had a long distance relationship. We have been together for 3 years and a half, but before I had the WHV we were visiting each other all the time for different periods: 1 -2 months - 3 weeks.... For justifying the Common law living period I can proof that we have lived together in Spain for 3 months with my parents, then he went back to Canada and one month later I followed him with the working visa for 10 months (excepting Christmas when I came back to Spain ). Can this be considered as the 1 year requisite?

- Since we lived together independently but at his parents or my parents house, would it be a good idea to get a document signed by the notary with my parents and his parents stating that we lived at their place?

- Since I lived and worked for more than 6 months in Canada, do I need to get a Canadian Criminal Record?

Thank you so much for your help

I think we should all receive the Title of Immigration Lawyer after going through all this difficult paperwork....

- No, the working holiday visa won't give you any kind of advantage.
- Yes, this should work for common law provided you can prove you were living together for these period.
- Yes, absolutely get signed documents from your parents and his parents confirming you were living together.
- No, you don't need to provide a Canadian police certificate / criminal record check.
