Hi everybody!
First off, great group! Helped me a lot in my application process.
Am about to finish my sponsorship inland application for common law. As proof of relationship there are 20 photos required. The checklist IMM 5589 says the photos have to demonstrate our conjugal relationship. My understanding of a conjugal relationship is that we have to live together.
So do I only need photos from the time living together (since May 2018) or could be from some time before that? Like showing various stages of our relationship.

I think you are confusing common law and conjugal. If you are applying using a common law relationship, you can show photos together for all stages of a relationship, this will help prove the validity of the relationship (photos together do not prove cohabitation, after all), but I would still include most photos for the time you are living together to make a stronger case for commonlaw. Other supporting documents will prove cohabitation.
Thanks Qwertzpod,
yes, this part of the checklist stating the conjugal partnership confuses me. But will send photos from all stages of relationship, but mostly from time while living together.
Cheers!
Common law is living together for 1 continuous year.
Conjugal is when a couple can not be together for immigration reasons. For example a same sex couple who can’t get married in the Philippines but one partner also has been refused a visitor visa. They would qualify for conjugal.
I would recommend showing photos documenting your whole relationship. My husband and I, while only married since last year, have been together since 2008. We tried to cover that whole time span, and made sure to prioritise photos that showed us with friends, each other's family, and on trips together. I'd definitely try to cover the whole scope of your relationship, the common law part will be proven more by the other documents you include like tenancy agreements and official documents showing a shared address. Good luck!
