I had an ex-common-law partner, but we never filed any application nor share anything under our names except we changed our martial status with CRA to common-law for 7-8 months before we broke off and reverted it back to single status. The part I am confused about is looking at the document checklist it says asking me to provide some proof that we are separated and thats the part I am stuck at because I dont know what proof is required. If anyone has some insight on this please reply below and let me know. Thanks!
are you able to get something from Canada Revenue Agency indicating your marital status reverted back to single after the separation? or just submit your income tax assessments showing that you filed as single for however many years?
Hi, I already got my Option C print out stating my status as "Single".
Also, after doing some searches on the forum some members suggesting writing up a declaration of severance of common-law relationship. I dug up this post containing a format below:
STATUTORY DECLARATION OF SEVERANCE OF COMMON-LAW RELATIONSHIP
Country: (country)
Province: (province)
In the matter of an application made pursuant to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and Regulations and in the matter of common-law union, I, (name), of the city of (city), in the province of (province), do solemnly declare that:
1.The common-law relationship between myself and (name) ended on (date).
2.At no time since our relationship ended have we lived together, nor tried to reconcile the relationship.
3.This declaration is made with the knowledge that it is being relied upon by Immigration Canada and the Canadian Embassy in (city), (country).
I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing it to be true, and knowing that it is of the same force and effect as if made under oath.
Name of Declarant: Signature of Declarant:
Name of Commissioner of Oaths: Signature of Commissioner of Oaths:
Declared before me at the city of (city), in the province of (province), this (number)th day of (month) of the year (year).
However, I am currently living outside of Canada, so im confused what goes in the "Country" and "Province" part.
You can get a statutory declaration or affidavit in other countries. The city and country will then be whatever place you are when you sign in front of the notary.
