I thought maybe we could start compiling a list of common mistakes and/or easy mistakes to make, so we all know what sorts of things we should try to be aware of when assembling our applications. I know reading about other people's trial and error has definitely made things easier for me and my partner so far, so I thought others might like an easy-access list, too.
Two things I've already seen as common errors and oversights:
- forgetting to sign forms
- not sending application with tracking
I'm not sure what this means "not sending application with tracking" can you please elaborate on it?
Also, I had a quick question.. I applied in July of 2015 and I sent IMM0008 dated February, but then I realized it was updated in April... I compared forms - there are no difference.. could this result in refusal or them sending application back for "incompleteness" or smt similar? I'm worried a bit...
Americans: Not applying for the FBI police cert ahead of time, because the FBI is backed up by about 3 months.
General:
Not including original docs when specified (copies don't suffice for some documents).
Outdated forms - Forms can update without notice and some people have had their applications returned (which is ridiculous really)
Forgetting payments
The outdated forms thing is a big one! I've seen some horror stories about that point in particular, yikes.
And re: tracking, I've seen cases where people decided to cheap out on the shipping, of all things, and their application got lost, etc. Sending in your application is really not a good time to cut corners!

Tracking just means shipping the application with a tracking number, so you can view its progress online and make sure it arrives. As for the form, I've heard of some people getting their apps returned due to outdated forms, but they also will simply ask for an updated version if it is an issue. If you have an application number, you can simply send in the updated form now.

I haven't received AOR (hence I don't have an application number) yet but that's probably what I'm going to do.. I'll keep track of updates that are done to that form and will fill out the most recent updated version and send it right away when I receive AOR. Thank you very much for an advice! Greatly appreciated!
1. Not admitting you have been refused a visa from Canada or any other country.
2. Applying for PR as a single person, then getting married before landing and not telling CIC about the marriage. Or omitting to mention a child. Or not saying you are common-law when you are (in Canada).
