Hi all,
My wife is moving to Canada as PR. I know she won't have ohip for 3 months. I want to buy private insurance. Should I buy insurance in Canada or in India ? I am getting 93 days policy from policy bazzar for around Rs. 5000 with coverage of 50000 dollars. I was looking for policy from within Canada and it is for around 220 dollars. Any suggestions ?

1. Put it this way, if your wife requires medical attention, which company would it be easier to deal with? The one in India, where neither of you reside, or the one in Canada where you are?
It's usually recommended to always get travel insurance from a company in Canada. If bought from India, they will most likely assume you are just visiting Canada, not moving there permanently. Some policies will require that if you get sick and require medical treatment, you board the first flight possible back "home" to continue receiving treatment which would be cheaper for the insurance company.
Plus actually talking to a company, mailing claims and invoices, and getting a cheque mailed to you, is all much easier if the company is in Canada vs India.
