Hello , I am an international student in canada, my study permit and visa is valid till 2014 but my studies will be finished in August 2013. I was planning to go to my home country in August and come back in few weeks and apply for work permit . is it possible to do that ? , i have heard if i leave canada after my studies , i wont be able to come back without workpermit even tho i have visa and study permit .
please help me i am really confused , i dont know what to do .
thanks

You will need an EVN from the school/system in order to apply for a work visa. That means if you come back after you are done school even if you get through you will not be able to get a work permit. (That is if you are hoping to get an off campus open permit) So I advice that you get a work permit not.

Electronic Notification System (ENS)
The ENS is a system developed with the objective of facilitating information exchange between CIC and external partners, such as provincial/territorial governments and education institutions, and supporting several processes and programs.

Eligibility Verification Number (EVN)
This is the “Eligibility Verification Number”. It is the number that is produced by ENS to confirm that the student meets the initial eligibility requirements. It is the output of a successful Eligibility Verification or Eligibility Verification with transfer. This number is sent to the student via a message to the My CIC message box, and is required to continue with the Off-Campus Work Permit application. In the DIR Queue, this is a searchable field, to assist the DIRs in locating the appropriate record.

I already have an off-campus work permit, i am talking about post graduation work permit, we have to apply it within 90 days of our completion of studies. i just want to know if i can go out of canada after my exams and come back after few weeks and apply for post graduation work permit.

thank you

I think if you have valid study permit you can come back and apply for PGWP.
