Waiting...in process
The visa officer in Colombo asked my husband to renew his passport since his expiring on May 2014. What does this meaning? Are they going to offer my husband visa anytime soon? What stage is my husband in? Just wondering what all this meant. My husband already renewed his passport yesterday and had dropped it off in Canadian High Commission in Colombo.

Please someone clear my doubts !!
:'( :'( :'( :'(

Hubby's passport must be valid for 6 months or more before they will put a visa in it. If his passport was to expire in May 2014, he is just now at the 6 month mark. If I had to guess, I think they may be getting ready to issue his visa "soonish" and they want him to have the proper passport when they do so he won't have to wait longer.

Thanks Alurra, I am waiting ;D ;D .......hopefully they give my husband visa anytime soon ??? ??? ???

Looking at your timeline, I don't think you are even close to get the COPR. You filed your application in August, Colombo office received it in September. Looking at the processing times for Colombo, it says 16 months. So I think you still have at least 10 months of waiting.

They probably reviewed his app when the "in process" started and saw his passport is expiring soon, that's why they requested a new one. No need to read too much into it. They just want him to have a valid passport at the end of this process.

Hi Avadava,

How that's is not possible another 10 months. :o :o My file already in process (stage 2)...plus I am Canadian Citizen with good background. 10 month only for people who have problem with their file. ??? Plus, even with luck people gets their visa in 3-6 months. Everyone's file is unique. 8)

The CIC Processing times have been updated: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm/fc-spouses.asp#asia

The Colombo VO is at 15 months currently. This is the time it takes them to process 80% of the applications, the rest of 20% could go faster or slower. The fact that you, as the sponsor, have a good background doesn't count much. In stage 2, the principal applicant (the immigrant) is assessed. The genuineness of the relationship is assessed, background and security checks are performed which could take up to 6 months, etc.

It is a long process, and I've never heard of anyone getting their visas 2 months after they applied. Every case is unique indeed, but they can't skip certain things in the process. Each file goes through the same criteria: relationship, medical assessment, criminal history, etc. And each of those steps take time.

Hi Avadava,

People I knew have received their visa so fast and are in Canada. Plus medical and security check all cleared for my husband, plus my part of case all approved.
