Hi I have received a Co-op/Internship job offer starting January and was wondering if IRCC allows us to begin our work placements whilst awaiting a response on the Co-op work permit application?

I applied on the 13th of October and with current processing delays, the website says it could take upto 4 months for my Co-op work permit to be processed hence my question.

What are my options here? I don't want to outright decline the offer without getting a concrete answer.
