I am an international graduate student with valid study permit through 2014, currently in Ontario.
My problem is, my program of study needs graduate student to perform an internship for several months as a requirement to graduate. I just recently found a chance, however I don't know if I am eligible to apply for the co-op/internship work permit, which is free of charge, and then perform full-time work for several months (say 4-6 months). I do know that with OCWP I can only work part-time, but it is not the priority to me. My program is not a co-op program, so it is confusing now....
I tried to call CIC and their agent said if the school agrees that this is an essential part of you study, then you can apply for it. Shall I ask the people in school who provides the EVN number or the assistant in my department to support a letter?
Is there anyone with the same condition willing to share their experience? Thank you so much.

Yes, that why I got confused - I need this internship as a department requirement. I want to know if anyone has the same problem and how/where they got a letter from. Is it supposed to come from my department assistant or school administrator? Thanks...
dude, as every program has certain credits approved by Education ministry, so you can only do CO Op if and only if you got those credits in your program , you can change program to non co op or Co OP before or after that.
I can suggest you something, change your program to CO OP in your college in any other field having co op ,
then come back to your original program after completing CO OP.. thats the only one way to go. like 2 of my friends did.
