Closed Work Permit Job Loss + Working for US Company

Hello,

My situation is the following:

I am a US citizen with a closed work permit in Canada. I am quitting the company in the coming months and am going to accept an offer with a US based company where I am legally allowed to work.

My spouse, who is a Canadian citizen, is finishing up her studies. As such, I am going to be working remotely for the US company (with full approval from them). My work is entirely US based and will get paid in a US account in US dollars.

I understand that my closed work permit allows me to maintain my status in Canada as a foreign worker until the permit expires.

Question:

Are there any legal implications for me in terms of holding onto a closed work permit (which is effectively dead) and working for a US company?

Additionally, which country will I have to file taxes in?

Alternatively, if I declare that I no longer work for the Canadian company and enter as a visitor to spend time with my spouse, do I have tax obligations in both countries?
