Clarification on COMMON LAW

Hi there,

I am beyond confused on the requirements of a common-law relationship. Some websites are saying that you need to live together for at least 3 years to be considered a common-law in Ontario, but some websites (Canada.ca) says that "To be considered common-law partners, they must have cohabited for at least one year. This is the standard definition used across the federal government. It means continuous cohabitation for one year, not intermittent cohabitation adding up to one year."

which one is right? Please help me clarify! The information seems to be all over the place.

For interactions with the feds, one year ie the fed definition.

Définitions vary by province so Govt uses a common approach across the country.
