I have been on Canada for over 5 years now and I just became PR but why only half a day counts toward citizenship and why only one year will be accepted?

I know but why? I have been here more than 5 years and paid my taxes? I just want to know the reason behind this rule

Same here been in Canada for 5 years and max 1 years towards Citizenship is unfair but than its better then the old rule which make us to wait for 5 or 6 years and don't even count the previous stay.

The only logical explanation is that for some reason they don't want us to vote in the elections
