So today our entire application got returned to New Zealand, because CIC decided to change their sponsorship forms (August 1st) right after we mailed it all. By the time they opened the package, they deemed it invalid and returned it all.

I'm guessing we're not the only ones who've been caught out with this and in all honesty we're happy to just send it all off with the new form, but given that it sat in Mississauga for weeks, plus the time it took to return it, that means the police certificates are almost expired.

Do you think we'll need to redo all the police certificates as well? or can we send those later?

I'm asking on this forum because I've already called CIC from within Canada (I'm actually here on holiday at the moment) and the lady on the phone was less than helpful. She gave me ZERO guidance or information about what to do.

The police certificates are for the sponsored person, not the sponsor. So surely we can at least get the first stage done without those, what do you reckon?

Thanks in advancr for any help or suggestions you can provide.

Some people have varied opinions on this. However if its not too difficult I would update the clearances to be valid.

on the other hand, you could re-submit the old ones with a note explaining why they are outdated. They may just accept it that way. If its no good then the office may just request updated ones as they did for my medicals. send in asap, no problem, no delays. But that's my case. it may be different depending on if there is a full moon that night or not... (or so it seems..)

You are definitely not the only person who has been caught out by this

When you say they are about to expire what do you mean exactly? They need to be no older than 3 months when you submit your application

You have already had your application returned once - do not risk having it returned again, I would provide new police certificates to be on the safe side

Even though the police certificates are for the sponsored person, you application could be deemed incomplete at the first stage if they are expired

Thanks for your help, yes my police certificates are valid now. But by the time I get the paperwork from NZ, sign it and send on to Mississauga, one of them will be more than 3 months old. By the time I apply for another, then one of the other certificate will be older than 3 months. Knock on effects.

So by CIC returning all the paperwork, after they've had it for the last month, it'll take another few weeks to gather updated police certificates.

I don't get why they just didn't request a new form. Surely they know why this happened and that it's not our fault they amended the sponsorship contract after we signed it.

immigration to Canada can be a VERY bumpy ride. I learned the hard way ::)

I am very surprised that they returned your entire application; my application with the old IMM1344 was received on the 6th of August and my husband got an email on Aug. 27th requesting us to mail in the new one, we also got a file number. We sent it in the next day. Have you joined the August 2014 thread? There are at least 10 others in the same situation and yours is the first I have seen that has had the whole application returned. What is the fastest you get can get it back to them? Your certs should still be valid for around 2 more months right? Good luck!

Got our police certificates several weeks before we mailed it, thought I was being smart by getting on that early. Didn't know how long they'd take, especially the UK one. Then CIC sat on our application for all of August and one of the certs runs out next week. The other, a week later. 3 months gone!
