Dear experienced people,
I applied for citizenship on 28/07/2014 then I was charged with a criminal offence (assault and failed to attend the court) on 21/08/2014 (after one month of my citizenship application). Both charges were considered summary offences NOT indictable by the court and I received a conditional discharge of 12 months probation. As you can see from my timeline, they requested fingerprint in August 2015 and court documents (certificate of conviction) in June 2016. Is my application going to be rejected based on the charges that I received. Please I need your advice.
Thanks
Tamara

I submitted my fingerprints after I wrote my citizenship test. If you have any criminal record it can take around 120 days for them to process your background check. For me it was about 4 months. You should be fine with a summary offence, that is what mine was. Good luck!

Thanks beesee
CIC got my fingerprint results on April 25, 2016 but they asked information from the court to check if the offence is summary or indictable. This was my concern. Could you share your timeline? Can I send a private message to you?

You can't be on probation the day you take your oath or else you're not eligible to become a citizen. You better let IRCC know so they don't schedule you for a ceremony or something before it lapses. If you don't, and the police are slow to upload your criminal record into the CPIC system, and you take the oath, you'll be getting one of those handy 'Notice of Intent to Revoke Citizenship' letters in the mail shortly down the road. Since you won't your suspended sentence will lapse after one year, you can take the oath then and not be prohibited under Section 22 of the Citizenship Act.

Thanks Coffee198,
I already finished my probation (12 months). It started the day I was convicted on 21/08/2014. CIC asked for court documents to check on that. Hope everything will be OK. Thanks for your concern.
