I am living in Winnipeg with my girlfriend for the past 1 year. We are both on Study permits. We have joint bank accounts, phone accounts, bills, lease agreement etc. I am wondering if I can switch to work permit and then apply for PR. I know about sponsoring common law. But since we are already here and living together, is it possible now to apply for PR by being common law.
Sure you can apply through one of the immigration programs such as EE or PNP if you qualify although maybe a good idea to get your PGWP application going first for some all important Canadian work experience.

Thank you so much for your reply. Can you let me know how can I get my PGWP? I want to change my status ASAP to work permit since I want to apply for my PR. I will be getting my degree in like 3 years. So I was looking for something quick. If you don’t mind can you guide me a little with the process since I am not sure about it.

I do understand that. What I am asking is, one of my friend has a similar situation. They both came to Canada as common law, so one of them OWP and one of them is on Study Permit. And they applied for PR. I am wondering if we could do the same? Only difference is we are both here or study permits.
One of you can apply for PR as the main applicant and add your spouse to the application, but what's the rush? Better to get work experience after you graduate first.
