Hello,

I'm on a work permit from last one year. I got married recently and my wife came to Canada last week with visitor visa (assuming it's a dependent visitor visa - added marriage certificate as well). At port of entry, the immigration officer given stay for only 6 months even though she is dependent on me. She didn't received any landing paper on arrival at port of entry. I would like to know what I can do to extend her visa and get landing paper from immigration for adding her to Ontario health card. It will be great if anyone can respond for below questions.

Is there any process to change her visa to dependent visitor visa to get landing paper?
Does it work if I apply open work permit for her?
Do I need to apply any visa extension a month before visa validity (6 months period) if work permit is approved?

Thank you.

In order for her to be able to work she has to apply for a work permit. You can apply to sponsor her as a PR inland and apply for an OWP concurrently.

She cannot get OHIP at this time. Please google requirements for obtaining OHIP

OP can't apply. OP is on work permit himself and looks like his wife got visitor visa and it's typical to get 6 months' stay as a visitor.

There is no immigration route for a dependent of a foreign worker. If you qualify to immigrate as a skilled worker/express entry ...etc, include your spouse in that application and you will become PRs at the same time if it's approved.

As of now, there is no landing paper for a visitor and you cannot add a dependent on a visitor visa to your OHIP.

I am not familiar with dependent work permit (SOWP) of foreign worker but it's possible but not garanteed.
Please post your question in the foreign worker's section. This section is for Canadian PRs and citizens to sponsor their family to become PR.
So people will assume that you are already a PR and answer your question that way.

Thank you for your suggestion. I will be applying for PR but it takes few months so in the meantime I wanted to get OHIP for her. The only requirement for OHIP is she need to have a valid landing paper document. I will post it in foreign worker thread.
