I will be taking the citizenship oath at the end of the month. In the meantime I have legally changed my name. I called CIC and I was told that I have to wait till the process is finished in order to change my name. My question is shall I request for a new citizenship certificate the same day I take the oath or apply for a passport, wait till I get it and then do all changes? I have already updated my driving licence and OHIP card but not my PR card.
Is it illegal if I do not update the citizenship card straight away?
Also if I get the CA passport with my old name now and change the name later on the CA passport would I complicate things?
I will have to travel few days after the oath but I will do so with my current passport. I will welcome any advice or sharing your experience on the above. Thank you.
