Hello,

We have a case that would probably be similar to many others.

Background :

I am a valid work permit holder working full time as a software engineer in one of the big tech companies in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). I got engaged in January 2021. My fiance and I decided to apply for the master's program in January. We prepared the application package in a very short time frame (15 days). Luckily she got an admit from McMaster University in April 2021.

We applied for a Study permit application for her in May 2021. At the time of submission, our marital status was single/bachelor. Later just within 14-15 days of submission, we got married.

My wife got an admission offer in April from McMaster University.

Questions :

During the study permit, i provided a letter of financial support for my fiance (and wife later to be). I am going to sponsor all her study and living expenses.

I am worried now about study permit approval for the following reasons:

1. Since her study is going to be sponsored by her husband, would that somehow prove to the visa officer that she has no plan of going back to her home country and cause the refusal of study permit application?

2. We used TOEFL scores for admission and her TOEFL scores are also lower than cut off. (56/120). We have explained in application that it is mainly due to lack of preparation in a very short time frame. She has 2+ years of professional experience and a bachelor's degree from a University where English was the language of instruction. We attached letters for the same. But Is it another topic of concern for the study permit application ?

Any ideas and experience from similar cases is appreciated.

Thanks.

Did you update her application when you got married? After you got married you needed to update her marital information. She has a decent chance because she is doing a masters degree from a reputable school but without more information it is tough to say.

I've requested marital status update through IRCC webform and by emailing New Delhi Visa office, but haven't received any response from them yet.
