I have a friend who attends a private institution in ontario where he got training as a commercial pilot. After that, he got employed with the school on a 'closed' work permit as a flight instructor (skill B, code 2271) for the past 2+ years and continues to work there. He is now looking at permanent residency thru the CEC. Based on what i see on the immigration website, there doesn't seem to be any reason for him not to be successful.
Does there need to be anything extra besides an employment letter listing his duties , pay etc? or should he have attended a post-secondary institution and be working on a post graduate work permit? And/Or does he have to ask his employer for a LMO and all that jazz?
Let me know because I actually plan to mirror his approach.
I applied under the same NOC 2271 in March 2013 according to the new CEC rules and was found elegible. So you can put a check mark on your first question!
I did not sent any secondary or postsecondary education info with my application since it was not related to my experience. But you have to prove how you gained your experience in Canada (WP, LMO, ...) You should, however, send a copy of your license, ratings, etc. Every bit of information relating to your experience helps. Make it "airtight"!

I also saw in their manual (OPS 12-Students) that flight instructors fall under "Special Cases" for a post grad work permit. If you attended a flight training centre for more than 8 months, you can apply for a Post Grad work permit. I am finishing up my CPL and i plan to do my Instructor Rating. Again the school is just a regular flight school (i.e private); so is it possible to get a post grad work permit based on the criteria given in the manual?

Spot on! Not a pilot, but I did work as crew on a vessel. I did as DC suggested....provided them with all my ratings, license, special access cards and security clearances (copies). Better to give them a little more, than have the process held up until you provide it to them after the fact.
