I have a question, I applied my PR along with my wife under CEC. My application was received by CIO on February 24, 2014 and I also applied online for my wife's OWP on February 22, 2014. Coming to the point I was wondering should I have to email Canadian High Commission back home office and tell them that we also have filed our PR under CEC ?

You don't have to inform CHC back home about your CEC file. Even you inform them it wont have any effect on your spouse's application for OWP. Your spouse's application will be reviewed on your current status not on your ongoing application.

So in your case your will also get OWP till Sept 2015. I am not sure about second part (6 months of PGWP after renewing your passport). But why to worry we will be PR by that time. 8)
