My current registration is expired( expired 4/20) . Wondering would I be able to export my car with a expired registration?I have paid off my car and have title with me.
The reason why I ask this is if I renew my registration now I would have to pay $300 bucks here and then it will be of no use as I am moving to Canada permanently and have to register my car there as well.
Generally expired registrations are not a problem for registering in another place, but you might get pulled over by cops when you are driving. It might pose challenges with import/export too. Not worth the hassle..
Every state has a way to get back pro rated refund once you transfer your plates, you are better off looking in to that.

Point you should consider and find out if you have this option: Usually/Many state gives your money back for the period you did not use when you submit your plate. So check in your website or call the respective office and find details first before you decide on renewing.
Also another thing is that state like ontario has given permission to use the car without renewing due to pademic from march. So if this is the same case then you can drive and if someone asked then show the printout of your state regulation.
Hi @DEEPCUR and @harirajmohan - I went to the MVD today. As my car registration is expired and I just paid off my car today ( Also as I moved states) , so they asked for final bill of sale and title. I will probably have my title in hand in next 2 weeks. I explained them the situation that I do not want to pay $350 for full year of registration and they told me they can give me a 30 day permit saying I am awaiting the title. Will this 30 day permit work?

As far as i remember, title is what is required, not the registration.
Try verifying the documents required for export from US too to confirm.
Why you did not ask if they would return the remaining amount when you submit the plates within 2 months?
Its not all about 30 day permit but you need to also make sure you finish your export process within 30 days and register in Canada within that period of expiry or else you would be pulled over for it.
@harirajmohan - I actually asked and they said they wont return the remaining amount when I submit the plates within 2 months. Also asked whats the minimum duration I can take the registration for and they said its 1 year.

My car is in Texas with a expired registration. It will take me another 6 months to get to it. I am planning on getting it registered in Texas and driving it to Canada.
Can I register my car with a Canadian Drivers License and also I wont be a resident of Texas?

Yes I only need to renew my registration. Since its been a few months since it expired, I have to do it in person. I also need to do a inspection on the car.
There is an alternative called temporary registration that I can do online without any vehicle inspection. I haven't explored much into it.
Anyways thank you for the reply.
Covering US travel with Canadian based insurance is not same thing as US based (texas state) insurance for registering vehicle in Texas.
Per my understanding you cannot register based on Canadian insurance. Without an address, you cannot get US insurance.
Call them and find the possibility.
