Hi All,

is it correct that no affidavit is required is a certified Canadian translator does it?

it doesn't actually state this on the document checklist:

Translation of documents

If a supporting document is in a language other than English or French, the applicant must provide IRCC with a copy of the original document as well as a version translated by a certified translator.

If a supporting document is in a language other than English or French, the applicant must provide IRCC with:
•the English or French translation; and
•an affidavit from the person who completed the translations; and
•a certified photocopy of the original document.

A certified translator automatically has affdavit, so if you use a certified translator you don't need an additional affdavit.

Argh, you're right. Below is the wording used for citizenship applications (it used to be the same wording for PR applications), I suspect the intent is still the same, but details got lost in "simplifying" the language. If you have it done by a certified Canadian translator, the affidavit is part of the document provided. (Plus, you can use the same translation later for your citizenship application, should you chose to apply).

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/cit/admin/general/translation.asp

"...Translators who are certified members in good standing of one of the provincial or territorial organizations of translators and interpreters of Canada do not need to supply an affidavit."
