Hi everybody;
I'm a Spanish doc currently living in Barcelona and my boyfriend is a Canadian citizen living in Montréal.
Our plans are getting married in Canada in some months and then apply for my PR.

I'd appreciate SO much if any of you could answer my questions about this process:
1) As a Spanish citizen I can stay in Canada for 6 months without any other kind of visa. If I move there, we get married, and start the PR process: Is any kind of extension for my stay? Or it's still 6 months even though we're waiting for the PR?
If so, would going to Spain for some time and going back to Montréal again affect the process in some way?

2) Which kind of application is the best in this case, inside or outside Canada? Assuming that I may spend there some months during the wedding and the beginning of the process, but if these 6 months expire I have to go back to Spain (My point is: If, i.e., we apply for inside Canada because I'm there when the application is done, and in the meanwhile I have to go back cause I can't stay for longer, maybe the application would be rejected)

3) I will appreciate any kind of advice, experience or tips!!

Thank you in advance and best luck for you all

Marta

1.) you can apply for a visitor visa extension if you plan to stay longer than 6 months. Many people do this while an outland PR app is in process with no issues http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/extend-stay.asp

2.) It looks like applying outland would be the quickest route for you. Your visa office is Paris, with a current processing time of 8 months plus currently 91 days for Step 1. If you applied inland, the wait time is 11 months for Step 1, 8 months for Step 2. Also, if you apply outland you can travel freely to/from Spain without any issues http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-fc.asp

Btw:
Does it make any difference getting married in/outside Canada? As we're not married yet we may consider the location if it has to mean an advantage.

Thanks!!

does not matter where you get married as long as it is legal!! and the more family you can have there the better!!!!
