We became landed immigrants to Canada on 2014 and then returned back to US. In 2015 we were blessed with a child in the US, becoming a US Citizen. We have time until 2017 to move into Canada to maintain our PR status and then stay there for 2 years. I know my kid (almost 2 years now) can enter Canada without visa for 6 months, but the Canadian PR process for my kid can take more than 6 months after our entry into Canada. So, can someone guide me as what I should do to make sure we are able to stay in Canada for 2 continuous years after entry into Canada AND also not be worried about my kid being deported from Canada if the PR process for my kid takes like a year or so? Also, can we start sponsoring my kid from the US, even before we moved into Canada to save time?
As a PR, you can not start the sponsorship and plucatiin while you are not residing in Canada yourself. It says in the law.
As a US citizen, your child can enter Canada without even needing a ETa. I can not see why a child would be denied of entry while the parents are making an effort to meet their residency obligation.
You may want to extend your child's status as a visitor accompanying PR parents before the expiry of her first visitor record( generally 6 months from the date of entry, unless specified otherwise.) just request for a lengthy period of extension. Pls make sure you explains it well. Or keep extending her status while waiting for the outcome of the sponsorship.
Good luck
Ivory
