I'm an Indian citizen living in Australia as an Australian Permanent Resident.
When I met my wife she was living in Canada and her application for Canadian PR was being processed. I traveled from Australia to Canada and we got married while her application was in progress. We advised Canadian immigration of our marriage and Immigration requested my details and medical. After providing the required info to Canadian immigration we decided to live in Australia.
After a year later Canadian immigration has asked us to submit our passports for PR.
Now the problem is that i will be becoming Australian citizen with in next two months (citizenship ceremony to be held in June 2020). once I acquire Australian Citizenship my Indian Citizenship will be renounced automatically and I will not be able to use Indian Passport and will have to apply for Australian Passport.
My wife and I plan to travel to Canada in December 2020 to get our PR cards and possibly live there and we are facing the following problems:
Will I be able to transfer Canadian PR to my new Australian passport?
If i decide not to take Canadian PR and just travel on Australian passport (Australians do not need Canadian visa), can my wife still keep her Canadian PR and travel to Canada with me?
We can not advise Canadian about this just yet because I will not be Australian Citizen for at least another 2 months and nothing officially changes til then.
