Soon we'll be applying for first Canadian passports for the family. However I have few concerns. What is the primary ID for the purpose of name identification? Citizenship certificate, COPR or Birth Certificate?
My child was born in Scotland and in his scottish birth certificate in the "name" section he has two words NAME PATRONYMIC.
In his Russian passport he has only NAME and no patronymic.
In other canadian documents such as COPR, PR cards, Citizenship Certificate he also has his name only without patronymic.
When applying for passport we need to submit both citizenship and birth certificates. Is it ok or are these documents contradictive and we need to somehow change them through legal name change or another way?
My guess is, and it is purely a guess...they go by what it says on the citizenship document. One way to speed up things is to go to the passport office directly and not send in all the paperwork. This way you can clarify issues.

The birth certificate submitted with a child's passport application is only used as proof of parentage. So as long as it is believable from the birth certificate that you are in fact the parents of the child, no problem. If there were a name MISSING from the birth certificate, that could be an issue, but if there is an additional name there, that shouldn't be a problem.
The name in the Canadian Passport will be based on the name in the citizenship certificate.
Obviously, the name in the Russian passport is completely irrelevant. It is not a document that is used for a Canadian passport application.
