I am currently in India for more than 6 months and continue to stay here for a few more months. Recently I received the Canada Oath ceremony request. If I get an option to receive a Canadian citizenship while staying in India, do I still need to apply for OCI from India when I plan to return Canada?

Yes you need to apply for SC and then entry visa. After 6 months you allowed to apply for OCI.
If you want to just stay in India and apply OCI later that can also be done. But still SC and entry visa u will need.

did you take your test outside canada ? or taken test in canada and after LPP then came to india ?
Yes you need to apply for SC and then entry visa. After 6 months you allowed to apply for OCI.

Test taken in Canada and yes, we traveled after LPP. But we didn't plan to travel after LPP.

You cannot apply for OCI on e-visa. You need entry visa for that. I am not sure if they are ok with applying for OCI once you get entry visa as you already there for 6 months or need separate 6 months stay on entry visa. You can check that with FRRO when you applying for entry visa.
