Hi All,
I applied for citizenship in December 2021, and received the AOR for my application last month. I was also granted an immigrant VISA to the US, and will be moving to the US later this year. I intend on living in the US longer term, and will only be returning to Canada to complete the next steps in the citizenship process (test and oath). A couple of questions that I have around my impending move follow -
(i) Considering that I plan on leaving Canada and establishing residence in the US, do I need to inform the IRCC of my move? If yes, how do I go about doing that?
(ii) With the ongoing pandemic, I believe the IRCC has been allowing candidates to take the citizenship test from outside of Canada. Is this still applicable, or have the rules been changed since?
(iii) How long is the wait post the test to take the oath? In the event that I do visit Canada to take the test, would it be preferable that I stay for a longer period and wait till I take the oath?
(iv) Are there any other agencies/governmental bodies (CRA et al) that I would need to inform of my move? I am aware that I can inform the CRA of my non-resident status, but I'm wondering if there's any other agencies that I'd need to inform as well?
Many thanks!
NK
