Hi all, thanks in advance for your help. I have a tough situation and I'm not sure where to start.
I am a dual Canadian-American citizen living in Washington State in the US. I was born in the US but moved to Canada as a small child and lived there until I attended college in the states. I became a Canadian citizen in the late 80s when I was around 14 or 15. I still keep my Canadian passport up to date and consider Canada where I am from.
In 2005 and 2007 my husband, who is American, and I adopted our children from Kazakhstan as Americans, they are now 7 & 9 and American citizens. It is my understanding that they are eligible as my children for Canadian citizenship which I would very much like them to have.
How do I start this process for them? Should I hire an attorney?
i may be wrong, but i believe they will be PRs first and then move on to citizenship. don't think adopted kids can become citizens directly through the adopted parents. you should look into permanent residency clauses for the kids.
