Canadian citizen UCI and proof of citizenship?

My common law husband is Canadian (he was born in Canada, to Canadian parents, etc) - he is going to sponsor me for PR - where can he find his UCI? Does he have one by default? Also, how does he prove his citizenship - is a scan (and print off) of his passport sufficient?

He should have a citizenship certificate; UCI number is at the back of the page. For citizenship proof, scan of passport is enough

Thanks! erm, I am not sure he has a citizenship certificate, though - if he does not, then does he have to apply for one? Or can he just learn his UCI through, e.g. calling CIC or going to Service Canada?

Canadians born in Canada does not have an assigned UCI since they have birth certificates issued by provinces, not Federal. In your husband's case, he doesn't have one. He will be assigned an UCI number with CIC after CIC received PR spousal sponsorship application and send an AOR to him.

Checklist IMM5443 list one of the following photocopies for your husband to submit:

Birth certificate
Canada Passport Bio Page

Ok, thanks so much screech339! So basically we just submit a printed scan of his passport bio page and that's that, and give no UCI (if a form asks for it, we write N/A)?

Leave it blank. There will be an UCI assigned but your husband doesn't know it until AOR is sent.

Ok, we will leave it blank. TBH, I am a bit confused as to where leave stuff blank on forms, and when to write N/A in general. I assumed I'll write N/A on the document checklist (for instance for dependants which I don't have, etc), and then just not attach the form that is N/A, and then on forms which I will be submitting, leave stuff blank or write N/A (with the exception of my husband's UCI which we will leave blank)?

I believe everything else, write "N/A" or "Not Applicable" that doesn't apply to you or your husband.
