hi
I am curious. My husband was told by someone in his country, that had a 5 years visitor visa, that the CIC took his visa away as he is applying for PR.
I think its bull. He prob did something wrong and lost it, as it appears he is doing the PR papers now. So many makes my husband believe they got their papers before him etc when all along its never really the case.
No - it's not 6 months per year. However visitors are allowed in for a maximum of 6 months. After that, they have to apply to extend their stay if they wish to stay longer.

Ok but what does the 5 years means then?
My friend in QC just got hers for her boyrfriend, and she said something like it was good for 5years for 6mths per yr

That means the visa is valid for 5 years and the 6 months is THE MAX the person can stay if the border agent doesnt give them a specific date to leave canada

You're confusing two concepts. The validity of the TRV vs. the allowed length of a specific visit. They have to extend their visit it if they want to remain in Canada for longer than the visit allowed by the CBSA officer when they enter Canada (which is typically six months but can be less). Having a TRV with a five year validity does not mean you can visit Canada for five years straight. The five years is simply the period you have been granted approval to enter Canada as a visitor.
Im not confused, never ever thought 5 years is 5 years visit...........
i said a 5 years visa with a 6mths per year............
Which is what another friend of mine has.
