When was the LMO sent? Send an application for the WP two weeks before the expiration of your WP; attach a letter that explains your LMO is in process and you're about to lose your status and will send them the LMO once you receive it.
For inland processing, the concurrent processing option will only be allowed for foreign nationals whose work permits will be expiring within two weeks. They must provide proof of a valid job offer, as well as proof that the employer has submitted a request to Service Canada for a new LMO. Applications will be initialized and the processing fee will be processed. Applications will be held for two months (TBC for CAQ) from the date of receipt, after which a determination to either refuse or approve the work permit will be made.

Our WP expires In May 2012 , LMO Alberta is still under process. With current LMO processing time I don't think it will come before May 2012.
What should we do
1. Apply for WP extension without LMO
2. Leave Canada & apply for visitor till we get LMO
We are in exactly the same position as the OP, and I found a more up to date operational bulletin which says the same thing so I guess that's what we will do too. Just a quick question - as we are already in Canada, we are applying 'inland' are we not?

If you are applying for a work permit for a job that requires a Labour Market Opinion (LMO), you must now include the valid LMO with your application.
We are no longer accepting work permit applications without valid LMOs.
