i currently have lmia work permit. my wife has a dependent (20 year old) child who wants to study in canada in high school or maybe esl??
we want the whole family together in canada, but she is not my child since my wife and i got married after she became an adult. so i don't adopt her.
my representative told me that my wife can get a open work permit but said that if my child wanted to study she needs to apply separately
my question is, how can i use my work permit to support my wife's child to high school? will she need letter of acceptance?
ircc said we can apply for her child based on the open work permit, but my representative says that bc open work permit is based off my permit, this would not work??

If she is 20, then she isn’t in high school. She would be looking at college/university programs. If post secondary, she would need a study permit and pay international fees. She would apply separately.

ESL classes are normally 6 month visas. Without grade 10 or 11 it will be difficult to get a study permit. Would suggest she finish her high school in her home country.
Also she will need a separate application as it will not be based off your work permit. At 20 and without high school education, it will be difficult to get a study permit to complete high school. Getting permit for ESL classes is even more difficult due to her age and having not completed high school.
