Hello All,

Here is our situation in short.. My husband came to Canada as an International Student in 2014 and we got married in September 2015 and recently applied for spousal sponsorship with OWP for my husband with the application. I am a Canadian citizen myself and my husband is from India.

My husband gets his degree in post-grad this February (2016) and after applying for spousal sponsorship and OWP, we found out that it takes a lot of time for CIC to send OWP after they start processing our application. We were wondering if we can apply for his PGWP (Post-Graduation Work Permit) now after we've applied for spousal sponsorship with OWP (our application hasn't started being processed yet and no AOR yet), so that he can start working in his field now instead of us waiting to hear from CIC for months (as PGWP is processed within a month as compared to long OWP process)

Any help will be really appreciated :)

Hi

It's only taking about 4 months from submission for the OWP to be sent out.

He can apply for the PGWP anyways. It doesn't matter that he has already applied for the OWP.

Thank you for replying. Yes! I read that it's taking 4 months after you get AOR i.e., they start processing your file which might take 3-4 months after you send out the application i.e. about 8 months in total, which is why we are thinking of applying for PGWP.

That's incorrect. It's 4 months from submission.
