I applied for permanent residency within Canada in November 2011.
I have been on a work permit (multiple ones) since I moved to Canada in Jan 2010.
I will now have my landing interview on November 22.
I have been reading contracting posts about getting a SIN number.
Basically, here's my issue.
I got an offer for the job of my dreams. This job is supposed to start on November
26th (they need me asap).
I thought it would be fine because I had heard that I cant get my SIN on the
same day as my landing interview with my confirmation of Permanent Residency.
I have now read that if I applied inland, I need to wait for the PR card to get a new
SIN. My current SIN starts with a 9 but is valid until April. Could I work for a new
employer with my current SIN and the COPR ? or do I need a new SIN ?
Is there no way I can get a new SIN with my COPR ?? Why would I have to wait and
people coming from abroad do not ?
so you worked with SIN starting with 9 and C O P R ?
Did you apply inland ?
when were you able to change your SIN ? after you received PR Card ?
or after C O P R ?
I am currently working on my SIN but I have a "closed" work permit.
I can only work for my current employer.
After I get my C O P R, I was told that I can not change my SIN immediately and that
I have to wait for my PR Card to apply. But can I change employer if I have the C O P R,
before I get my new SIN ?
To anybody who might be interested:
I was told today by CIC that you CAN get your new SIN on the spot after you get the COPR even if you applied inland.

I was worried since my Wife is in Canada on a CWP/TRV. She has a SIN starting with 9....
She has sent her (Indian) Passport to CPC - Ottawa to get her PR Visa Stamped. The issue is she has a new Job Offer which she can join till 26th October. Assuming she gets the COPR along with the Stamped Passport before that she should be still be fine to join her new Job with the COPR + existing SIN which she waits to get "Landed" Status. Correct?

I called up Service Canada. They clarified COPR (1 year from date of issue) is good enough to get a new SIN.
Permanent residents must submit one of the following documents:
a Permanent Resident Card issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC).
a Confirmation of Permanent Residence issued by CIC, accompanied by either a travel document (for example, a foreign passport) or an alternate photo identification issued by a provincial/territorial authority (for example, a driver’s licence). Note: The Confirmation of Permanent Residence is acceptable if used within one year of the date you became a permanent resident. The Permanent Resident card is required after this period;
a Record of Landing issued by CIC before June 28, 2002;
a Verification of Landing issued by CIC. This document is only acceptable to amend a SIN record or to obtain confirmation of an existing SIN; or
a Status Verification or Verification of Status issued by CIC. This document is only acceptable to amend a SIN record or to obtain confirmation of an existing SIN.
