You can visit her, but if you are a PR you need to be in Canada while sponsoring. A short visit should be OK, but if they think you are living outside Canada, that would affect the PR application. If you are a citizen, then this doesn't matter.
She can apply for a TRV to visit Canada, but it will probably be refused since she plans to come to Canada permanently, most likely they will not believe she will return to Pakistan after the visit.
I sponsored my husband in December, and the sponsorship got accepted in early Jan, 2010. His application was sent to Singapore late Jan, and we have been waiting without a word from Can Imm - which is expected. We saw Singapore has some of the longest processing times for SE Asia - 5 months-15 months. So, I have decided to go wait with him in Indonesia at the end of this month (we decided this after he was refused a temp visa in January). I got a ticket that can be extended up to one year, but we are hoping we will only have to wait 6-9 more months... I decided not to change my home address since the people taking over the rent are my close friends, and my stuff will still be here. Plus, I am not technically moving, just travelling. My email will remain the same, and my husbands contact info is still the same..
I am a Canadian Citizen, and he is Indonesian.
