I had applied for my study permit back in March. I deferred my course from May to Fall '20. Updated the new LOA back in April.
Could not get my biometric because VACs were closed. I haven't heard since then, medical not updated too.
My course starts from 14th September and I don't think I will get the AIP in time.
So can I start my course without AIP as new CIC update says "Time spent studying online outside Canada now counts towards the length of a post-graduation work permit starting from when you apply for a study permit."
Please help.
You can start, but it's no guarantee that you will get a visa. Make sure your institution will refund you if you are refused.

Afaik universities and colleges will not allow you to register for classes unless your student permit application is approved or an AIP is issued.
Even with AIP, if you start your classes and then get refused later you will not be able to ask for a refund.

That is not true of all universities. It is not true of the university where my daughter has to start her lousy online classes.

If you know for certain that she will be refunded if the final decision is refusal, then go ahead.

Yes, same for Concordia University of Edmonton. They were willing to let me start without AIP...

True. My college is also allowing me start without AIP after the recent CIC update.

Right. This is also my concern. Will have to enquire about this from my college.
