As the title states. My spouse is visiting on an eTA and we would like to start her inland spousal sponsorship application. The official government website states that the spouse can be a student, worker, or visitor with "legal status" in Canada. Is an eTA considered valid legal status?
Legal status is defined on the official government website as follows: "Having legal status means you are authorized to enter and remain in Canada as a temporary or permanent resident under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, as a Canadian citizen under the Citizenship Act or as a Registered Indian under the Indian Act. Temporary resident status is valid for a specific period of time and you must ensure that your status as a temporary resident remains valid while you are in Canada."

To clarify, your spouse is not here on an "eTA visa". An eTA is simply an electronic authorization to board a commercial carrier to travel to Canada. She was granted visitor status upon entering Canada.
