Hey guys,
I am a Canadian citizen and my just recently came to Canada as a refugee claimant? Can I still sponsor him while he is still awaiting his decision? Either inside Canada or outside Canada? I want your advice.

Thanks a bunch everyone

If you are a Canadian citizen....why is your son not a citizen....please could you help to explain.

Are you a naturalized Canadian citizen.....i.e., was a PR before you became a citizen....if yes.....did you declare your son as a non-accompanying dependent in your application for PR before becoming a citizen.

If IRCC was initially informed that you had a son....you may sponsor your son as a dependent child if he qualifies as a dependent child.

Age limit and requirements for dependent children

Find out if your child is a dependant

Also depends how old your son is.

I am a naturalized Canadian citizen, yes I declared him as an unaccompanied child,. He is 14 years old.

I think your son's refugee claim will likely be rejected on account there is a PR dependent sponsorship available to him through you.

Thanks @screech339 for your updates and info. However, I do have another question. Can I do the sponsorship internally ie within Canada or the sponsorship must be from outside of Canada?

All dependent PR sponsorships are only available through outland. Your son can be inside Canada but the application will be done outland regardless.

Just to clarify the situation, will the Refugee claim jeopardize his sponsorship and vice versa? If I start the sponsorship now and it is faster than the Refugee process, what in your opinion should I do?
