Can I skip school for one semester

Hi all... Can I be on a study permit and not attend school for one semester.... Planning to do another program after my 1 year program, want to know if I can chill for one semester without registering in school and continue the next semester.... I was advised not to take a GAS course immediately after my program cos I could get only 18months PGWP, but if I wait after one semester I would get a 3yr work permit.. how true is this??

Please make sure you find a way to take a few classes while you wait for your plan to mature. International students are not allowed to go part time talk less of taking a semester off. You can easily run into issues with the CBSA in the future if you don't have a real reason. I think you are only allowed to go part time in your last semester of study if i remember correctly. Plus your school has to report to CIC every semester about your continuous enrollment.

It also states on cic website that you can only be granted a PGWP not beyond the duration of your study.

" A work permit under the PGWPP may be issued for the length of the study program, up to a maximum of three years. A post-graduation work permit cannot be valid for longer than the student’s study program, and the study program must be a minimum of eight months in length. For example, if you graduate from a four-year degree program, you could be eligible for a three-year work permit if you meet the criteria. If you graduate from an eight-month certificate program, you would be eligible for a work permit that is valid for no more than eight months. "

"As of June 1, 2014, all study permit holders in Canada will need to actively pursue studies. This means that:

if you hold a study permit, you must remain enrolled and make reasonable and timely progress towards completing your program; andfailing to do so could lead to your removal from Canada.

Your educational institution will report to CIC on your continued enrolment and academic status. You may also be asked by an immigration officer to provide evidence of your continued enrolment and academic status.
