Can I leave Canada to visit home for the holidays while awaiting PR?

Applied for pr and my Canadian citizen husband is my sponsor. Our application was received at the end of May. Also sent in the work visa application. The only "update" we've received was an email stating that our application was received lol.

I would love to be able to visit home for the holidays (west coast US) for 2 or 3 weeks. Online, I've mostly found that yes, you can leave, but I'm still wary. Also, did I have to apply to extend my vistors visa while awaiting my pr? I read on the cic site that applying for a work permit counts towards legal temp status, or am I screwed?

Any temporary status you may have expires when you leave Canada.

While you are free to leave Canada, and some people do while awaiting an inland PR application, the general advice is to not leave. If you require a visa to re enter Canada, you may be denied the visa or denied entry at the border. If you are gone for a while, you may be rejected PR as the inland application requires you to be in Canada. Some people say a trip of 1-2 weeks is acceptable, but you run the risk of being denied entry at the border.

Look into Canada vacations.

Just sent my inland application + OWP for my husband 2 days ago!

Just wondering if it's advisable for my husband and me to travel to the US for the weekend? He is from a visa exempt country and is on an eta. We were wondering since the application hasn't been acknowledged by CIC yet there won't be any issue with his "Implied Status" -> which I believe starts when his status expires in Canada in Dec 2019.

Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you!

Regardless of his current status or what stage the PR app is at, entry to Canada is never guaranteed. While the risk of being refused entry is very low, it is your decision to make.
