Can I get the additional 15 points for taking an online course while working in Canada on a OWP

Hi guys, so I have this complicated question.

Currently I am working in Canada full-time on an open work permit as spouse. I had a degree (4-year) and 5 year experience in my home country, but our points still are't enough. I am thinking of taking an online full-time graduate certificate course offered by a college to get more points.
1. Will I get the additional points for 2 academic credentials?
2. Will I get the additional points (15 under the new policy) for post-secondary education in Canada?

I searched in the forum, someone did an online course in his own country, that might not be counted as education in Canada, but what if I do it within Canada?

I would not suggest you do that.
Because according to

30-(5)-b Exceptions:

• (b) credentials obtained in a study or training program in which distance learning amounted to more than half of the program; or

And unfortunately you cannot do any full-time study in Canada without having a study permit. If you apply for a study permit, it will void your OWP.

Foreign nationals are required to obtain a study permit for engaging in academic, professional, vocational or other education or training that is more than six months in duration at a designated learning institution (DLI) in Canada.


Maybe you can get a more EE points by having a higher language score or consider French?

Now every thing's clarified, the only way to get more points is to take a one year program on campus. By then, my OWP will be voided automatically? But since I will be studying full-time by then, I don't need a work permit anymore, right? When graduating, I will be entitled a 1 year PGWP right? My question is when that PGWP expires, can I get another OWP for spouse?
