Can I as a spouse find work?

Hi all,

New here, apologies if this has been asked before but I couldn't find anything specific hence why I've joined!

My boyfriend and I are currently putting together an express entry application, I'm being added on as a spouse. I'm trying to find out how I could work as well when (if ) we get to Canada!

I've been trying to read about the work permits but my mind is just being a bit baffled and I was hoping someone might be able to put in simple terms for me - how can I get a work permit, which work permit can I get, could I search for a job before I even get to Canada?

Well obviously the first obstacle to overcome with your EE application would be to show you meet the common law requirement with proof of cohabiting 12 plus months. Then you need decide who scores the most points for EE to become the primary applicant with the other partner as the accompanying spouse.

Once you have done all that put your application in the pool and then get selected and approved then all you need do is both land in Canada to get you PR status and from then on you both have rights to live and work wherever you want in Canada, no extra permits nothing. Of course you both need to apply for individual SINs and PR cards when you land but no work permits.

As for searching for jobs before you become PRs no harm in trying but nearly all companies are reluctant to even reply to anybody until they have landed and are PRs. This given as you might understand there are thousands of speculative enquiries people send on the off chance and then never come to Canada so companies are reluctant to waste any time.
