infact i want to ask,will it be easy to visit america after getting canada pr, suppose after every one or two months just to spend 2 or 3days to meet some relatives in america or see america and then back to work in canada.
Re: can canda permanent residents visit united states of america
Dear leon,
canada pr holders have the same rights as the canada citizens, so america is not in the list of visa free countries for canada citizens.Kindly comment in detail.
Canada PR in general have the same rights as Canadian citizens, within Canada. As soon as you step outside Canada, it only depends (in general) on the passport you carry.
rupeshhari is right. Inside Canada a PR has the same rights as a Canadian citizen except to vote but when you are outside Canada, PR does not equal citizenship.
Here is the link to the visa information to the US for Canadian citizens and PR's:
http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/without/without_1260.html
Permanent residents (aka landed immigrants) of Canada must have a nonimmigrant visa unless the permanent resident is a national of a country that participates in the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), meets the VWP requirements, and is seeking to enter the U.S. for 90 days or less under that program.
So basically, reading that, there is really no benefit being a Canada PR in order to visit the US.
Canada however does not require US PR's to have a visa to visit Canada. You can find that information at http://www.cic.gc.ca/EnGLish/visit/visas.asp where it says:
Many people do not require a visa to visit Canada. These include:
* persons lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence who are in possession of their alien registration card (Green card) or can provide other evidence of permanent residence;

Hi,
You may try for a visit visa for US but according to my experience, getting a visit visa to US may not be positive if you apply soon after getting the PR card and before well settling down in Canada. Even if you get a visa perhaps it could be for a short period of one year. Once you become the citizen, you can frequently travel with the Canadian passport.

It depends on your current passport, if you hold passport of one of visa waiver countries then no problem otherwise you will need to apply for US visit visa. Prove strong ties to your country, show evidence to overcome 214(b). www.uscis.gov for details.
