I also got my PR 2 days ago. Thanks. But I am not ready to relocate finally. I am doing a postgraduate course that will help me over there. It will take me the next 3 year to finish. I am planning to to land and come back. Either come back alone or with my family. But I heard sometime that one can tell them to hold the visa for us. I don't know if this is through. Pls does anybody know anything like this.But this does not work. I will land and come back. This visa is a great achievement and I will guide it jealously.





I am a medical doctor. And I am doing a postgraduate training, the certificate of which will not be recognized but the skills and experience will put me ahead of other foreign doctor inorder to get a scarce and compititive position for undergoing the same training all over again. I feel the Canadians wants our skills rather than our certificate. Its pretty tough for foreign trained doctors over there but my purpose of going their is because of my children. So that they won't go through an education system that is not recognized and later be faced with what I am facing now. I don't know if there is a landed doctor on the thread that can advice. I am really confused and I need assistance.I also want to ask for information on how to get assistance from IOM for travel support. I know this has been dealt with before. But i could not get to them through the number someone gave. May be I have to add a code. I don't mind if we can discuss this all over again since many will land very soon. Please let share information on IOM assistance with travelling expensis.

It is not possible to have anyone "hold" the visa for you. You and your family must land before the expiry of your visas. Once you land, you must live in Canada two out of every five rolling years to maintain your PR status.

If you do not land before the expiry of your visas, then they will no longer be valid and you will have to apply for PR again from the beginning. Again, no extension of the visa is possible. Use it or lose it.

What scylla stated is absoloutely correct. The rules to maintain a Permanent Residency is same for everyone, 2 years out of 5 years is the requirement to maintain PR. Applicant and dependent(s) have to land before the expiry of visa date also. Visa can not go into hold for any purpose. Further it is not just 2 years out of 5 years to maintain PR, applicants have been refused renewal of PR if the immigration officer finds out that the applicant just barely manage to make it to 2 years time and comes to a conclusion that applicant have no intention to permanently reside in Canada.
