when we show up at the border with the marrge certificate, reciept for the outland application and proof that i can support my wife while she waits for PR can we drive acrross the border in her vehicle, or even vehicles? or should I "Buy" them from her and import them myself? Thanks
If you are still waiting for a PR, she will be coming as a visitor. She can bring her vehicle with her on the visit on the same terms as any tourist.
If you buy them from her and import them, you will have to pay duty on whatever they are worth. Once she has a PR, she can import them duty-free, so I think that's the way to go.
I'm not sure how long she can drive a vehicle with an out-of-province registration as a tourist. That's something you should look into with the Ministry of Transportation of the province you are going to.
Also be sure that the vehicles she owns are importable into Canada. Check the "what you can bring" section of the CIC website and it will link you to the transportation website. You will need proof of ownership (title), recall clearance letters, safety and emission tests (once in Canada). You must export the vehicle from her current country (I'm assuming US as it is the only border country you can drive from, lol) submit copies of the title several business days before actually exporting. There is no fee to export but there is one to import. I think the import fee is around $200 per car.
