Sorry No if you are being processed outside Canada, if you are being processed "in Canada spousal" then the OWP is included with the application to Vegreville. If the application receives first level approval, about 10 months after the application is received.

Hi PMM,
Thank you for your response, what do you mean about the first level of approval? Actually i had my medical last April 6 and I am waiting for my PPR. Right now i am not working and but I have a working permit until 2014 in my previous work. Can you advise me on what to do? Shall I just wait for the PPR or shall me and my partner apply for an open visa so I can work while waiting for PPR? Your answer will be highly appreciated. Thank you.

Did you apply using the inland (sent file to Vegreville) or outland (sent file to Mississauga) application process?

If you applied inland (Vegreville), then you will qualify for a open work permit once you have first stage approval (AIP). Right now it's taking around 10-11 months to obtain AIP.

If you applied outland (Mississauga), then you do not qualify for an open work permit at any stage of the process. You will only be allowed to work once you are a PR. If you want to work earlier, you will need to find an employer who must then obtain an approved labour market opinion. You can then apply for a new closed work permit based on that job offer and approved LMO.

I just read through your old posts. You applied outland. This means that you do not qualify for an open work permit at any stage in the process.

If you want to work before you become a PR, then you must find an employer, that employer must obtain an approved LMO and then you must apply for a new closed work permit.

I guess I have to wait for my PPR then, I havent got any answer from buffalo office and I dont know where my file is right now after the medical exam last april 6,2012 my ecas wasnt updated and i dont know if theyve received already or not. I dont know where to follow it up right now. I am losing already some of my patience and yet i still have to think positive on this.. Can someone advise me on what to do? Thanks a lot in advance.

Can I apply for a change in condition or status or extend my work here in canada like open work permit since i am only waiting for my PPR? Hope someone can answer all my queries. Thanks in advance!

No - you can't change or extend your status to an open work permit. Again, since you applied outland, you do not qualify for an open work permit. You can however apply to change to tourist status (note that you cannot work as a tourist).

Having PPR won't make a difference. You have to actually land and become a PR before you can work.

All Buffalo files were transferred to Ottawa. You can try contacting the Ottawa office for a status update.

Thanks Scylla! Do you know the timeline for all the files that has been transferred to Ottawa? Thanks in advance!

Hi Scylla! Can you explain further the difference between the outland and inland application? Thanks again.

Read the first post in the following thread for information about inland vs. outland:

Hi again Scylla! I've read the thread you've posted. My question is can my PR common law partner apply for a sponsor using the inland application eventhough i have a pending PR application in process which is now on the very last stage meaning I am just waiting for my PPR? Pls advise thanks again.

I'm sorry - I don't understand your question. Are you asking if your common law partner can apply for you inland even thought you already have an application that's being processed outland? If that's what you're asking - then I don't understand why on their you would do this. In order to file an inland application, you and your partner would first have to withdraw the outland application. You would then have to file a brand new inland application (new medicals, new police checks, new forms, new supporting documentation) and all of the processing would start again from scratch. Why would you abandon your outland application when you are probably very close to the end? This doesn't make any sense to me.

Hi Scylla,

Sorry to mixed up everything... I have applied as a single person on a federal skilled category and I am waiting for my PPR as what I have discussed to you in my previous thread. I am not currently working right now but I have a working permit valid until 2014. What me and my partner wants to ask is that since my partner is already a resident here can she apply an open visa for me? Because at the time that I had applied for my PR we didn't inform VO that we are common law since the agency advised us not to do it because our papers are in process. Luckily her paper was approved already and landed last Aug 2011. But mine is still in buffalo or rather in Ottawa and no news yet for my PPR. The big question is can my partner apply for me separately for an open visa eventhough I have pending PR application? I hope you understand where I am coming from? Thank you in advance Scylla.
